70 years ago, British people played a crucial role in founding the United Nations. Exhausted by war but inspired by peace, communities came together to build and strengthen a then fragile organisation.  Since then, local people have continued to contribute to the work of the UN.

As part of UNA-UK's celebration of the UN's 70th anniversary we invited people to discover and record the role their community played in building this vital organisation. Exploring such links brings the UN closer to home, reminding us not only of its role in creating a better world but also how proud we can be of the part we played in its development.

Below are some of the stories and discoveries we heard on how ordinary local communities are connected to the extraordinary global work of the UN.
