Like other towns and cities across the UK, Edinburgh also has it's links to the work of the UN. Here are some of Edinburgh's connections to the UN:

  • The UN named Edinburgh the world's first city of literature. The Guardian reported Scotish cultural Minister, Patricia Ferguson, as saying "I'm absolutley delighted at the news that Edinburgh has been recognised as the first UNESCO city of literature. This is not only good news for Edinburgh but for Scotland as a whole". UNESCO has also recognised the Forth Bridge as a UNESCO world Heritage Sites .
  • Edinburgh Council welcomes Syrian refugees fleeing conflict in their home country, after councillors agreed to take part in a relocation project
