UNA Harpenden: Public Meeting - European Human Rights Advocacy Centre

Updated:

At our public meeting on 22nd March, about 25 people heard Professor Philip Leach speak about the work of the European Human Rights Advocacy Centre (EHRAC).  The EHRAC is a charity, which supports Human Rights (HR) lawyers working mainly in Russia and the Caucasus and who represent victims of HR abuse at the European HR Court (this sits in Strasbourg and is part of the Council of Europe, not the EU).  Prof Leach gave examples of HR abuse such as those arising from the indiscriminate bombing of civilians and villages by Russia and conflicts throughout the Caucasus.  He was also scathing about the skewed debate on HR in the UK.
