UNA-UK hosts President of UN General Assembly for discussion with civil society and NGOs

UNA-UK was delighted to welcome the President of the UN General Assembly for a round table discussion with over 20 representatives from UK civil society.

H.E. Ms Maria Fernanda Espinosa engaged with experts and practitioners on a range of issues including: the necessary steps to achieve the 2030 agenda, how the UN and different stakeholders can work to ensure the safety and security of women and girls, and how best to take advantage of the UN 75th anniversary.

2020’s milestone anniversary presents a golden opportunity to strengthen multilateralism and ensure the UN opens up to different stakeholders.

UNA-UK was pleased to present Ms Espinosa with our campaign Together First - a movement that will present a “to-do list” for world leaders to combat global risks and help ensure civil society has a seat at the table of global governance.

An important goal of Ms Espinosa’s presidency has been working towards a “UN for all”. UNA-UK hopes this pledge will be continued under the leadership of H.E. Mr. Tijjani Muhammad Bande, who will preside over the 74th Session of the General Assembly.
