The UNA Birmingham Branch is sad to announce the death of Mary Whitworth, a very long-standing and very much valued member, on 17 August. She died in her sleep.
Mary was a teacher, an artist, a knowledgeable gardener and had previously worked as a secretary at the BBC. She was a woman of great courage, having survived a catastrophic car crash which left her in constant pain, and recently, a devastating family tragedy, which she endured stoically.
At the age of 91, Mary still contributed to Branch activities, with her artistically designed publicity leaflets and generous donations to our annual sales. She very hospitably held committee meetings in her house in the summer.
In past years, she had enthusiastically taken part in Myriel Davies’ international study tours and was always a believer in the UN ideals.
She will be greatly missed.
