WACUNA's Ordinary Council Meeting is on Wednesday 25 March at the International Maritime Organization. After a little business, Margaret Owen will speak about the economic costs of ignoring widows' issues; the most neglected of all human rights and gender-related issues.

The speaker is a barrister and international human rights lawyer who focuses on women's rights. She founded the first international organisation to address human rights issues faced by widows worldwide and is now the director of Widows for Peace through Democracy, which is the umbrella for many partner organisations across the world.  She is a regular participant at the UN Commission on the Status of Women and has been the consultant on widowhood to the UN as well as the author of the UN publication: 'Widowhood: invisible women, secluded or excluded', which forms part of a series to promote the goals of the Beijing Declaration and the Platform for Action.

Guests and non-members are invited as observers, but please confirm your attendance before 24 March with Rubi Bhattacharrya (contact details below) to receive further information.
