Guest Speaker:  Anna Roberts
Executive Director
Burma Campaign UK

Anna Roberts is Executive Director at Burma Campaign UK. She has 20 years’ experience working on advocacy for human rights. She has worked at Burma Campaign UK for 16 years and previously worked for Amnesty International.

Anna will address the local UN Association and will look at the current situation in Burma and the  politics involved and also examine what steps can be taken to address the crisis.

Burma is undergoing its biggest human rights and humanitarian crisis in decades.

500,000 Rohingya, more than half the entire Rohingya population in Burma, have been forced from their homes in just one month. The indiscriminate scorched earth offensive against the civilian Rohingya population began in August after attacks on police stations by Rohingya militants, killing at least 11 government personnel. Thousands of Rohingya have been killed, many more are facing starvation. More than half of all Rohingya villages have been burnt to the ground. Thousands of ethnic Rakhine and people from other ethnic groups have also been displaced.

There will be Ploughman's Lunch and coffee/tea (£3.50 per head) from 12:00 pm till 12:30 pm and the meeting starts at 12:30 prompt.  For catering purpose please contact the person responsible for this event if you intend coming.

Please do come along and bring a friend
