Guest Speaker:  Heidi Meyer
First Female Master of Lord Leycester Hospital Warwick in 450 years

The local UN Association are delighted to have Heidi Meyer Master of Lord Leycester Hospital in Warwick to come and address our Association.

Heidi will base her answers on her personal experience of many years in war zones and post conflict stabilization activities with NATO and the US government, that Heidi have undertaken alongside the United Nations.
In answering Heidi will particularly look at the UN successes and failures; Secretary-Generals`s vision; and her personal experiences with the UN Afghanistan mission.

Biography for Heidi L Meyer, Master Lord Leycester Hospital, Warwick

Heidi Meyer has held position as the 33rd Master of the Lord Leycester Hospital since November 2016 and is the first female master to be appointed in 450 years.
From 2013 to 2016, she worked for NATO as the Senior Political Advisor to the Commander of the Land Forces of NATO located in Izmir, Turkey. 
From 2012 to 2013 she worked for the US Department of State as a lecturer on the Faculty for the Conflict Prevention and Mitigation program at the US Department of State Foreign Service Institute, Arlington Virginia, USA.  From 2009 to 2011, also working for the US State Department, she spent three years at US Embassy Kabul, Afghanistan, as Head of Governance programs.  This position required extensive travel in Afghanistan working closely with military and local Afghan civilian and international organizations such as the UN and EU.
From 2008 to 2009 she worked in the US Secretary of Defense Office as Country Director of the Afghan Policy desk, the Pentagon, Washington DC.  For the last three months of that assignment she was selected to be the Secretary of Defense’s representative on the US Afghan Election Monitoring Team for the 2009 Afghan Presidential elections located in Kabul. 
From 2006 to 2007 she worked for the Office of the US Secretary of Defense in Kabul, Afghanistan as a Strategic Advisor in the defense capacity building programs at the Karzai Palace working on strategic advising support to the Afghan National Security Council.
From 2003 to 2006 she worked for DoD as the Deputy G3 USA NATO, SHAPE, Mons. 
As a NATO International Civilian, she was assigned at the NATO HQ in Naples Italy from 2000 to 2001 as the civilian military desk officer during the Kosovo crisis working with UN and non-profit organizations.
Heidi Meyer has also worked as a social studies schoolteacher for three years in Naples; set up and run a non-profit NGO delivering aid to forty countries from 1994-2000; held a Commission in Her Majesty’s Army retiring as a Captain after five years service; and was a ski instructor.  In 1994 she earned a Masters degree from the School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University, Washington DC, USA and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Warwick in July 2018. She was born in Newbury, Berkshire, United Kingdom.

There will be a Ploughman`s Lunch and coffee/tea (£3.50 per head) from 12:00 pm till 2:15 pm and the meeting starts at 12:30 prompt.
