Interestingly the first SDG relates to poverty.  This is no coincidence. If we are not careful “ sustainability” just becomes another must-have for the wealthy and the poor stay excluded. Surely the goal must be to work for sustainability for all otherwise it can’t be sustainable. When we think of poverty, we can be forgiven for thinking of the so-called developing world.  But we don’t have to look that far afield to find people in real need.  Leeds has some of the poorest ward areas in Europe and it aims to be a “ strong economy, compassionate city”.  St George’s Crypt is a charity in the City of Leeds, working with the homeless, the vulnerable and those suffering from addiction.  Chris Burford is a trustee for the charity and seeks support from UNA Harrogate on how to make the charity more effective in a world of competing and conflicting priorities.  Although the focus will be on Leeds, Harrogate has its own social problems including homelessness but most of us choose not to think about it. This UNA meeting will be held on Monday 10 July at the offices of Primeast Ltd.

Arrive at 6pm for a 6.30pm start.  We aim to finish by 8.30pm.
