World Refugee Day 2006

To mark World Refugee Day 2006, Mike Booker of the UNHCR - the UN Refugee Agency - addressed YPN members at University College London.

Mike gave a very insightful talk about UNHCR's role in the UK together with an eye-opening look at the process that the Home Office employs when vetting asylum seekers to decide whether to grant them refugee status.

Short biography of Mike Booker

Mike Booker joined UNHCR in October 2004. He is currently working on UNHCR's Quality Initiative Project which monitors the quality of asylum decision-making undertaken by the UK Home Office. Mike originally trained and practiced as a lawyer and has also worked in Bosnia with the UNV and in Zambia with VSO.
