Role: Tim is Head of the John Bright Peace & Security Programme at UNA-UK. In this capacity he:
leads on UNA-UK's peace & security work
coordinates UNA-UK’s Young Professionals Network (YPN)
serves as the contact point for the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the UN
represents UNA-UK on the Gender Action for Peace & Security Network (GAPS)
is the focal point for UNA-UK’s membership of the UK Network of the UN Global Compact
He is also the Secretary to UNA-UK’s Policy Sub-committee and a qualified First Aider
Expertise: Tim’s expertise covers peacekeeping, disarmament, humanitarian intervention and law, corporate social responsibility, and the regions of sub-Saharan Africa & South Asia
Biography:
Tim has nine years' professional experience of working on conflict issues, both at the policy level and in the field. Prior to joining UNA-UK, he worked as a consultant to organisations operating in unstable regions, such as West Africa and Central America, providing risk assessments and evaluating social impacts of operations. Previously he worked for the conflict transformation NGO International Alert, in both London and Sri Lanka. Tim has also served as a political risk analyst for a major commodity trading company; as an international development adviser at the House of Commons; and as a researcher for the security policy think-tank, the Centre for Defence Studies. He holds an MA in War Studies from King’s College London and a BA in Politics & Sociology from the University of Bristol. In 2008 he was appointed Chair of the Advisory Committee of the charity Refugee Education Across Conflicts Trust (REACT).
