Guidelines for contacting your MP

MPs recieve a lot of letters and e-mails. In order for your communication to be effective, we have outlined a few key pointers below.

• Members of Parliament will generally only deal with their own constituents.  It is therefore important that you include your full address and postcode in any correspondence with your MP.
• If time permits, we advise writing to your MP rather than e-mailing them. Letters are more personable, and more likely to generate a response.
• Write to your MP in your own words. An individually written letter is more effective than a mass-produced one.
• Make sure you have the MP's correct name and title. Use Parliament's MP directory to ensure that you address them correctly.
• Try to be brief, factual and polite. Outline why you are writing, and what action you would like your MP to take.
