The latest issue of UNA-UK's magazine, New World, launches the Association's new nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament initiative: Towards Zero. This five-year project aims to build on the global momentum to secure a world free from nuclear weapons.
In this edition's Essay, Dr Bruce Jones considers the challenges (and opportunities) arising from the current constraints on UN peacekeeping; and in an Opinion piece, Yvo de Boer, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, looks at the four key issues on which agreement is needed for the Copenhagen climate change conference in December 2009 to be successful.
To mark the first World Humanitarian Day, this edition also features a contribution by Sir John Holmes, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, who reflects on why 2008 was the deadliest year to date for humanitarian workers.
