8 March - UK and France draft 'no-fly zone' resolution for UN Security Council

As the UK and France press ahead with drafting a UN Security Council resolution on establishing a 'no-fly zone' over Libya, UNA-UK is pressing for the broadest possible support for such action, in particular active participation by Arab nations.

UNA-UK is also urging states to:

ensure that the Council's arms embargo is fully respected take concrete steps at this week's Arms Trade Treaty negotiations in New York to prevent future misuse of arms by despotic regimes support the UN Human Rights Council's decision to dispatch a commission of inquiry to investigate alleged 'widespread and systematic human rights violations' donate generously to the UN's humanitarian appeal ensure that any potential decisions on establishing a no-fly zone are brought before the UN Security Council, and that any such action is actively supported by nations in the region.
