UK appoints new ambassador to the UN in Geneva
Peter Olaf Gooderham has been announced the new UK Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva. Mr Gooderham was previously Middle East and North Africa Director at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and counsellor on economic, social and environmental issues to the UK Mission to the UN in New York. He will begin in April 2008, taking over from the current ambassador, Nick Thorne.
Geneva houses the UN's second largest headquarters, as well as over 20 funds, programmes and agencies, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the World Health Organisation and the Human Rights Council.
