IUNA-UK policy priorities are debated and agreed by its membership at regular policy-making conferences. Ahead of the conferences, UNA-UK members are invited to submit motions to the conference Procedure Committee, which decides whether they are admissible.

In order to be admissible, motions must:

  1. Be submitted by a UNA-UK branch, region or nation, UNYSA branch or Youth Council, or a group of six individual UNA-UK members (provided not more than two are from the same branch). Branch, region or nation submissions must be submitted using the official letterhead and be signed by the Chair/
  2. Be no more than 150 words. While essential background information can be sent to the Procedure Committee, the motion itself must not exceed this word limit.
  3. Clearly relate to one of UNA-UK’s policy areas (peace and security, sustainable development – including climate change, human rights and humanitarian action, and UN reform, governance and institutions).
  4. Include an explicit reference to a UN body, treaty or conference.
  5. Include a specific action that UNA-UK, the UK government or the UN can take.

Once received, these motions are grouped into the above policy areas by the Committee, and circulated to all UNA-UK branches, regions and nations, UNYSA branches and Youth Council, and all members registered to attend Conference in the form of a ‘Preliminary Agenda’.

These constituencies will be invited to submit comments and amendments to the motions received, and to complete a ballot form to determine which policy areas are discussed in plenary sessions, and which in the smaller policy commissions.  Once this has been completed, a ‘Final Agenda’ will be distributed.
