UNA-UK Climate Change Conference Series 2008-09

Join the UNA-UK at a series of free one-day conferences to discuss climate change from an international, national and local perspective.  Help generate a critical mass of support and pressure in the UK for British leadership on the world stage in the fight against climate change.

The first conference took place on 7 June 2008 in Birmingham. The conference was well attended and featured expert speakers, interactive workshops and information stalls.

The second conference will be held in Belfast on Thursday, 6 November 2008 - to register for this conference, please click here. Two further events are being planned for the autumn of 2008 and early 2009 – one in Wales and the other in Scotland.

The conferences will consider these questions:

    1. What is the role of the United Nations in finding solutions to climate change and building resilience to its impacts?
    2. Is the UK government doing enough to build a low-carbon economy?
    3. What can individuals do to contribute to solutions?

    The conferences will aim to:

  • build support among the public and business community for immediate action by the British government to promote the shift to a low-carbon, high-growth economy
  • reconfigure climate change so that it is understood as not only an environmental problem but also a threat to security, health and prosperity
  • make the case that climate change needs to be understood as both a significant economic threat and an enormous economic opportunity for small- and medium-sized businesses
  • consider ways in which development strategies should be calibrated to encourage low-carbon, high-growth outcomes in developing countries
  • highlight the changes needed to strengthen international institutional capacity for addressing climate change.
These one-day conferences are free and open to all, subject to capacity. You can register for the Belfast conference by clicking here or on the button above, calling 020 7766 3448, or writing to Climate Change, UNA-UK, 3 Whitehall Court, London SW1A 2EL.
