© John Rodsted	Cluster munitions have a steep humanitarian cost, with both immediate and long-term consequences for civilians. They are also redundant - warfare has changed in ways which undermine their military utility. UNA-UK is calling on the UK government to fulfil its stated support for the Oslo process - a diplomatic initiative which is trying to find the strongest possible treaty banning cluster munitions. UNA-UK is encouraging its members and supporters to write to their MPs to ask them to add their name to a series of Early Day Motions in Parliament which support the call for a global cluster munition moratorium. ------------------------------------- Justice not Vengeance: it's time to ditch the death penalty -------------------------------------
© UN Photo/Paulo Filgueiras	The EU has mandated Italy and Germany to draft a resolution calling for a global moratorium on the death penalty, to be tabled at the 62nd session of the General Assembly this Autumn. UNA-UK supports the moratorium, which is envisaged as a step towards worldwide abolition, and has set up a dedicated section of its website to provide information about the death penalty and the campaign to get rid of it. ------------------------------------- 2006-2007 Parliamentary lobby on the United Nations -------------------------------------

	The purpose of the 2006-07 annual parliamentary lobby on the UN is to heighten MPs awareness of and support for the UN. In 2006-7 the lobby will focus on the UN's role in: combating catastrophic climate change stemming nuclear proliferation and encouraging mulitlateral disarmament implementing the responsibility to protect in Darfur pursuing economic justice to make Millennium Development Goals more achievable reinvigorating the Middle East peace process Please click on the themes to view a UNA-UK briefing note on each issue. UNICEF/UNA Trust Flag Day and street collections
-------------------------------------

Flag Day and other street collections are an important part of UNA-UK branch activity and raise funds to support the work of UNICEF, the UNA Trust and UNA-UK.

The collections also helpd to raise awareness of the United Nations, its agencies and their work across the world.

Many branches carry out Flag Day collections on or around 24 October to mark United Nations Day. Other branches run stalls at local events such as fetes and exhibitions throughout the year.

For 2007 UNA-UK has designed new materials and leaflets and has produced revised guidelines for street collections and reporting of the results. Copies of the guidelines and an order form for materials are available from UNA-UK head office or can be downloaded from this site by clicking the links below.

	Control Arms Control Arms is a campaign jointly run by Amnesty International, IANSA and Oxfam that calls for stricter control on the 639 million small arms and light weapons in existence in the world today. Unless governments act to stop the spread of arms, more lives will be lost, more human rights violations will take place, and more people will be denied the chance to escape poverty.

	Amnesty International: International Justice Amnesty International is campaigning for an end to impunity for the worst crimes known to humanity - genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, torture, extrajudicial executions and disappearances. To achieve this, the organisation, together with thousands of non-governmental organisations worldwide, is lobbying all governments to take steps to establish an international system of justice, complemented by national mechanisms, to bring perpetrators to justice

	Cluster Munition Coalition: Stop Cluster Munitions The CMC is a network of civil society organisations, including NGOs, faith-based groups and professional organisations, who share a common goal of stopping civilian casualties from cluster munitions.

	Your Voice Against Poverty: the world can't wait As part of its bit to push for implementation of Millennium Development Goal 8, UNA-UK has joined The World Can't Wait, a diverse group of organisations calling on the world’s leaders to meet their commitments to end poverty. The group came together two years ago under the Make Poverty History banner and are determined to build on the work of this groundbreaking worldwide movement.

	Globe for Darfur UNA-UK has joined the Globe for Darfur, an international coalition of NGOs formed in response to the weak international approach to the crisis in Darfur. The conflict has killed hundreds of thousands and displaced another 2.5 million.
