UNA-UK is a vibrant grassroots movement for the United Nations with a UK-wide supporter base. Our members play a vital role in supporting UNA-UK’s work by:
* raising awareness about the UN
* campaigning at the grassroots level to promote British leadership at the UN
* working with local schools and universities to support education about global issues
* fundraising for UN causes
* recruiting new members and supporters
Many of our members choose to join or form local branches, which have traditionally organised themselves by nation: Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England, with England being divided into regions (London & South-East, Southern Counties, Eastern, Central, North-East and North-West).
Each year, UNA nations and regions are invited to nominate individuals for an Award for Distinguished Service (previously called ‘Honorary Life Membership’). These nominations are presented to the UNA-UK Board of Directors, which approves the Award.
At its meeting on 6 March 2010, the Board approved the five nominations for 2010. Later that day, at the Association’s Annual General Meeting, the recipients of the awards were announced by UNA-UK’s Chair, Lord Hannay of Chiswick. |
